The Irreverent Approach is the intellectual framework that guides the work of The Roundtable Consortium.
It begins with a simple premise: many of the world's most persistent challenges endure because the assumptions behind them remain unexamined. Whether we are exploring conflict, peacebuilding, governance, human trafficking, digital power, or social change, we believe meaningful inquiry starts by questioning what is often taken for granted.
Our work examines the narratives, institutions, systems, and frameworks that shape public life. We ask difficult questions, challenge conventional wisdom, and investigate the evidence behind widely accepted claims. Not because skepticism is an end in itself, but because better questions create the possibility for better solutions.
The second half of our approach is equally important. Critique alone is insufficient. Every inquiry should create space for new ideas, new models, and new possibilities. We seek out practical alternatives, innovative approaches, and overlooked perspectives that can contribute to more effective responses to contemporary challenges.
Through essays, research briefs, working papers, analytical commentary, and long-form public scholarship, The Irreverent Approach serves as a space for rigorous inquiry, intellectual curiosity, and constructive exploration.
We are not interested in contrarianism for its own sake.
We are interested in understanding complex problems more clearly, expanding the range of available solutions, and contributing to conversations that move beyond inherited assumptions.
This is public scholarship grounded in evidence, informed by practice, and committed to exploring what might be possible when established ways of thinking are reconsidered.
